Ronald McDonald House Trike Trail

Installed a 1500 sq. ft. decomposed granite trail at the Ronald McDonald House - Corpus Christi.

Completed

Detailed description

The Rotary Club of Corpus Christi, with the help of Bay, Ltd., installed a decomposed granite trail around the perimeter of the backyard so that adults and children staying there can have a safe area to walk, run and/or ride bikes. Due to fragile immune systems, it is difficult for the families to play at local parks. The overall project took place on three Saturdays. The final date included a ribbon cutting ceremony and a Tuscan Cooking Lesson as part of the RMHC of Corpus Christi's Share-A-Meal program whereby residents learned how to cook pasta and other dishes from scratch. A meal was also prepared for all residents and workers on one of the work days and several trikes were purchased for the children to ride. Local Boy Scout Troop 316 worked alongside Rotarians and Bay, Ltd. volunteers and helped install the granite. The day the path was complete, a 4 year old boy with leukemia smiled and laughed while on a trike for the first time in months since he started his treatment.
