Community needs, project impact, and sustainability

Community assessment: How the project team learned about the community’s needs

THE CLUB LEARNT ABOUT THIS NEED DURING IT SEVERAL HUMANITARIAN VISITS TO THIS ORPHANAGE. THE CLUB OBSERVED THAT THE WATER THEY WERE USING IS CLAYISH AND IT IS WHAT THE WORKERS IN THE ORPHANAGE ARE USING TO DO EVERY OTHER ACTIVITIES OR CHORES. ALSO, WE OBSERVED THAT THERE IS A WATER WELL IN THE COMPOUND BUT IT HAS BEEN BROKEN DOWN FOR OVER A YEAR DUE TO THE FACT THAT SOLAR PUMP HAS BEEN FAULTY AND IT IS TOO EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR

-

Project impact: How the project will help the community after the project ends

THE IMPACT OF THIS PROJECT IS OVERWHELMING HAS IT WILL PROVIDE WATER FOR THE ORPHANGE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND WITH LESS ENERGY REQUIRED TO GET WATER FROM THE WELL.

-

Sustainability: How the benefits of the project will continue afterward

SUSTAINABILITY WAS ONE REASON THE PROJECT TOO SO LONG TO BE IMPLEMENTED, AS THE CLUB DID NOT WANT TO BURDEN THE ORPHANAGE WITH ANOTHER SOLAR OR ELECTRICAL PUMPS BECAUSE OF EXPENSES INVOLVED. THUS, THE CLUB CONTRACTED A LOCAL ENGINEERING CONSULTANT WHO SURVEYED THE PROJECT AREA AND CAME UP WITH THIS IDEA OF USING HAND PUMPS THAT REQUIRED LESS ENERGY. THEREFORE, THE CLUB SIGNED A CONTRACT WITH THE CONSULTANT THAT AFTER THE PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION, THE CONSULTANT WILL BE MONITORING THE WATER WELL AND DO ALL MAINTENANCE THAT INVOLVES THE WELL FOR 3 YEARS. THIS WAS SIGNED BETWEEN US AND A LEGAL PRACTITIONER SERVICE WAS PROVIDED
