Detailed description
The treatment of children with cleft palate is a complex, multidisciplinary procedure, involving specialists such as surgeons, dentists, orthodontists, speech pathologists and psychologists. In Ukraine these professionals are not used to working in cooperation with one another, which negatively affects the outcomes in clefts and maxilo-facial disorders cases. Currently more than 500 patients are receiving treatment for cleft and maxilo-facial disorders at National Medical University Bogomolets in Kyiv. 2 ukrainian children with severe facial disorders were operated with a new technique with customized prostheses made of titanium. 6 international agreements between ukrainian and brazilian universities are being signed to guarantee long term sustainability to this project.
