KIVA Lending - Small Change Creates Big Change!

Club members participate in micro-lending worldwide through KIVA website

In Progress

Detailed description

The Juneau-Gastineau Rotary Club launched its micro-lending program in February 2008. Club members are asked to contribute small change to coin jars at weekly meetings, and over $8,000 has been collected to date. More importantly, this has been turned into over $39,000 in loans, a total of 304 loans in 54 countries! Members meet 6-8 times per year over lunch or appetizers to select loans to fund on the Kiva website. Countries and sectors selected for loans are often related to club-member interests and Rotary priorities, generated from travel, hosting exchange students and meeting Rotarians from around the world. The default rate has been very low - just 0.84%. Small change has created big change around the world!
