Detailed description

A day after continuous heavy rains and floods spawned by the southwest monsoon sent thousands to higher ground and evacuation centers on August 7, 2012, RC Holy Spirit RI D3780 mobilized its members to help flood victims. In the morning of August 8, 2012, bottled water, biscuits and bananas were ready for distribution to flood victims. Seeing that the evacuees at the temporary shelters provided by Bgy Holy Spirit had already gone back to their homes, President Marcia Salvador proceeded to Bagong Silangan Elementary School in a neighboring barangay where some 400 families had sought refuge from the disaster. Together with Bgy Holy Spirit Kagawads Joel Lagarto and Emma Espino, they were met by the school’s principal, Mr Jun Honrejas, who along with the kagawads from Bgy Bagong Silangan helped distribute the food and water to about 200 evacuees. The elementary school was one of several major evacuation centers in the barangay situated in a very low-lying area in Quezon City.
