Project impact: How the project will help the community after the project ends
By providing emergency funds for diagnostic work up we ensure that the investigations are done rapidly and that there is no delay in arriving at a diagnosis.
After initial assessment by the social worker team in the department, arrangements to transfer an initial emergency grant to the patient’s account (in the hospital) on the same day is made. This allows for the investigations to be done without any delay.
From the time a patient walks in to the hospital, gets fully investigated, a diagnosis made and a cost estimate certificate is issued, it generally takes 7-14 days. Apart from this, by the time the families get the first help from any funding agency. it is usually a month after registration at the hospital. This discourages many families and they refuse or abandon treatment. As can be expected, delays in starting therapy for many of these young adults who are sick, leads to an adverse outcome. this would ensure that emergency treatment is provided & cancer therapy starts early.
