Handheld magnifying microscopes are donated to primary schools to enthuse children in science.
West Australia's Chief Scientist had a vision that every primary school in WA has a set of Magnifying Microscopes, so that through the microscopic world students could develop a love of science and progress to study science at higher levels. The RC of Freshwater Bay is coordinating the project to schools throughout Australia and overseas with sponsorship from other Rotary Clubs, individuals & Corporations.
The Magnifying Microscope, emblazoned with a Rotary emblem, is a small hand-held unit that allows a child ease of movement to view items indoors or out. An accompanying Activity Booklet enables teachers to integrate the use of the set of 30 Magnifying Microscopes with existing curriculum. These activities focus on the use of microscopes, plant adaptations to water supply, plant structure and soil composition, and include teacher background notes.
