Investing in people to create measurable and enduring economic improvement is one of Rotary’s six Areas of Focus.

Assisting learners/ parents in a sub economic area

The school/ centre is in need of infrastructure, support and funds to survive and serve

The Toy run in December 2015 has now developed in a partnership between Rotary Johannesburg and Oasis ministries of Hope to assist this centre to get properly organised and equipped. There are 20 kids in the pre primary and primary school that the Oasis ministries of Hope is running. They also do after care, hiv/ substance abuse and relationship counselling. The kids are fed/ educated and assisted with homework. Part of the challenge in the area is that some parents are illiterate and some cannot afford basic school fees adequate nutrition for the learners. The school fees varies from R150- R250 per child pm. Some parents receive social grants that they use for food and other. 70% of the kids do not have fathers in their daily life. The founders of Oasis are 2 people who gave up their normal day jobs to do this ministry in an area unknown to both of them.
