Rotary Club of Oxford, N.C. Tree Challenge

Meeting President Ian Riseley's challenge to plant one tree per Rotarian.

Completed

Detailed description

Rotary International President Ian Riseley asked Rotary members to work together to advance the tradition of Rotary by Making a Difference in 2017-18. He challenged all 1.2 million Rotarians to simply plant a tree before Earth Day on April 22, 2018. “The greater result will be a Rotary that recognizes our responsibility not only for the people on our planet, but to the planet itself. On Saturday morning March 3, 2018, with a cold wind blowing out of the North and a beautiful Carolina blue sky, members of the Rotary Club of Oxford, the J.F. Webb High School Interact Club, including their advisor, Rebecca Wilkinson and the maintenance crew from the Masonic Home for Children met at the Masonic Grounds to plant Crepe Myrtle trees, a Red Maple and over 100 Black Walnut trees. The project helped fulfill Rotary’s commitment to plant one tree per club member. A total of 131 trees were planted, more than three times the challenge. A Red Maple
