Community assessment: How the project team learned about the community’s needs
In order to fulfill one of the seven areas of focus which Maternal and Child Health, the Rotary Club of Abuja Maitama, conceived the idea of reaching out to pregnant women in the community through the distribution of birthing kits, health talks by nurses and midwives at the maitama General Hospital on hygiene during pregnancy and after delivery, importance of breast feeding and how to breast feed, general safety for pregnant women and their new born babies and the importance of vaccination of their babies especially the polio vaccine and others.
Project impact: How the project will help the community after the project ends
The pregnant women through the health talks by the nurses and midwives will be well informed on their hygiene, importance of breastfeeding, vaccination of their babies at different stages of their growth. Also, the birthing kits distributed to them will reduce the financial burden on the expectant mothers who may not have the need to buy birthing kits when going for delivery.of their babies.
Sustainability: How the benefits of the project will continue afterward
This project will be sustained during the next rotary year because of its importance to RC of Abuja Maitama and the Community.
