Detailed description
Our project assists youth, parents, and community members in a disadvantaged Bogota Colombia community by: (1) expanding a youth center, and (2) providing a Community Peace & Conflict Prevention Program. We expanded the facilities and basic education / arts programs at the Oasis Youth Center, located in the El Oasis Community, USME District, Bogota, Colombia. USME is situated on the outskirts of Bogota. We furnished a recently purchased building having 1200 square meters, and equipped the space with library/community meeting space, educational computers, art supplies, and basic kitchen and bathroom facilities. The building is adjacent to the St. Joaquinna Church, which previously managed the youth program from its church basement. Community youth now have an expanded place safe from drugs and crime and dedicated to community peace, character development and educational achievement. The expanded facility is the venue for our Community Peace and Conflict Prevention Program.
