Detailed description

This goal of this project is to help break the cycle of poverty in Guatemala by supporting the Common Hope organization. Common Hope's mission is to promote hope and opportunity among poor families in Guatemala, with a particular focus to increase the portion of students who graduate from high school. Education is a core issue in Guatemala, because only 17 percent of children graduate from high school. With a high school degree, young adults can double their income and thereby help to break the cycle of poverty that impacts many families. With support from eight Rotary Clubs and District 5950, this project provided $12,000 to purchase school supplies in Guatemala to serve about 3,000 students. Rotarians helped to distribute the supplies to students and also helped to pack a container of additional donated supplies that was shipped to Guatemala.
