Books and school equipment is shipped from Canada to South Africa to help needy schools.
Approximately 5 years ago the MRC was offered a container full of schoolbooks and equipment by members of the Grand Bend Rotary Club situated in Canada.
These books and equipment were sourced by the Canadian Rotarians from a school which was being closed by the School Board in their area. The Canadian Rotarians were astounded when they were advised that the books and equipment would be going into landfill if not taken by them.
Since the first container landed in Middelburg, we have received a further 53 containers filled to capacity with books and school equipment.
The books and equipment received to date have been distributed to more than 340+ libraries, pre-schools, primary schools, high schools, formal aid centres, senior centres, centres for disabled, hospitals, prisons and churches with close to 1 million books distributed.
