Detailed description
The Soy Cow is operating at the Proximos Pasos girl’s school located at Santa Maria de Jesus in Guatemala. The machine turns beans into nutritious and good-tasting soy milk. The machine also delivers a solid byproduct, called “Okara.” This protein-rich pulp is ideal for making baked goods like breads, cookies and more, which can be enjoyed by and benefit other area residents beyond the children.
The project has been set up as a business enterprise The excess milk, Okara and baked goods are also sold to the general public to generate income and self-sustain the project. The project has direct impact on the community. The parents at Proximos Pasos School are engaged in the SoyCow project and participating as entrepreneurs. It provides the local people opportunity to participate in the business aspects, learn about marketing, accounting and other matters.
