TJ is a one year four months old baby boy living in a poor urban community in Old Balara, Quezon City with unemployed parents. TJ was born with cleft lip and cleft palate. TJ’s mother had to stop working when he was born.
President Marcia Salvador of RC Holy Spirit D3780 was approached by Ms Nits Mahinay, head of RCC of Kaligtasan, regarding TJ. On August 14, 2012 Pres Marcia brought TJ and parents to Dr Deborah Ann “Debbie” Sales, an ENT surgeon at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center. X-ray and blood tests followed the initial diagnosis. The operation on TJ’s cleft lip was successfully performed last August 28 by ENT surgeons led by Dr Adrian T Adraneda.
The operation on TJ's cleft palate shall be scheduled next. The commitment of the doctors to share their knowledge and blessings with less fortunate children forms the foundation of the HOLY SPIRIT SMILES Project of the Rotary Club of Holy Spirit. The project is planned to benefit up to 10 poor children over 2 years.
